Spike is one of the 4 structural proteins of the Covid-19 virus. It’s a trimeric transmembrane glycoprotein precursor that contains 1273 amino.acids and is cleaved into two segments S1 and S2. The spike protein covers the surface of the virus and is responsible for binding to the ACE2 receptor and entry into the host cell. It is therefore to most important target for the generation of a vaccine.

Western blot was performed on protein extracts from HEK293 cells transfected with Spike-P2A-GFP (lane 2) and on untransfected cells (lane 1) using the Diagenode antibody against Covid-19 Spike (cat.
